(Pembroke, ON) – The Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating after separate reports of thefts from parked vehicles and a garage in the City of Pembroke.

Bank and credit cards were stolen from the vehicles, along with two pairs of Ray-Ban sunglasses. Food and alcohol were also stolen from an unlocked garage on Somerset Street.
A person of interest in these incidents was riding a bicycle, carrying a backpack, and is described as wearing a balaclava, gloves, and dark winter clothing with a reflective stripe on the lower leg.

The UOV OPP would like to remind residents that would-be thieves may be out walking the streets looking for crimes of opportunity and an unlocked door, open window, or valuables in plain view can be an invitation to thieves.

The OPP remind all vehicle owners to take the following steps to reduce their chances of victimization:

• Roll up your vehicle windows
• Lock the vehicle and pocket the keys
• Park in a well-lit area if possible
• Never leave valuables in plain view
Locking up should also be applied to your home, garage, sheds, and out-buildings.
