OPP Investigate Highway 17 Collision on Involving Youth on Dirt Bike

(WHITEWATER REGION TWP, ON) – Members of the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a two-vehicle collision in Whitewater Region (WWR) that sent one of the involved drivers to hospital by air ambulance.
The collision occurred on Monday May 4, 2026, at approximately 5:00 p.m., at the intersection of Highway 17 and the Algonquin Trail crossing in WWR. A 12-year-old youth was crossing Highway 17 on a dirt bike and collided with an SUV that was westbound on Highway 17. The youth was transported to hospital by land ambulance and then taken to an Ottawa hospital by Air Ornge. The driver and passenger in the SUV were not injured. The youth’s injuries were later determined to be serious but non-life threatening. A parent was riding with the youth on a separate dirt bike at the time of the collision.
Highway 17 was shut down for several hours as a result this incident.
