Renfrew County Crime Stoppers Encourages Vigilance for Human Trafficking
24 February 2026
Human trafficking happens in every community – including ours. The Ottawa Valley plays host to the Trans-Canada Highway, a critical east-west corridor that sees millions of truckers and travellers passing through annually.
Many people believe human trafficking only occurs in large cities or that victims are always physically held against their will. These are common misconceptions.
Trafficking often involves manipulation, coercion, deception or control, rather than physical restraint. Victims may continue going to school, work or live at home while being exploited.
Awareness helps us recognize the signs.
If you see signs of human trafficking, SAY IT HERE. Tell Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477) or ValleyTips.ca. You remain anonymous, will never have to testify, and could receive a cash reward. In an imminent or life-threatening situation, call 911.
If you’re being trafficked, know someone who is, or are a trafficking survivor, confidential support is available 24/7. Call the Canadian Human Human Trafficking Hotline at 1-833-900-1010.
