-Update #1- OPP INVESTIGATING DOUBLE HOMICIDE IN PEMBROKE

Post-Mortem Being Conducted (PEMBROKE, ON) – A post-mortem examination is being conducted today for the victims of a double homicide in Pembroke. On May 22, 2023, shortly before 3:00 a.m., officers from the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment responded to a residence on Mackay Street, where two people were located with life-threatening injuries. Both individuals were transported to the hospital, where one person was pronounced deceased. Another person was located deceased in the immediate area. Investigators believe the victims were targeted. For the safety of the surviving victim, no further personal information will be provided. The UOV Crime Unit and the OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS) Unit are assisting with the investigation, under the direction of the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and Centre of Forensic Sciences. While we cannot speculate on any potential connections, the team investigating the Pembroke double homicide is in communication with the team investigating the Renfrew homicide. The OPP is advising residents in the area that they can expect to see a large police presence for several more days as the investigation continues.

OPP INVESTIGATING DOUBLE HOMICIDE IN PEMBROKE

Two Dead and One Person With Life-Threatening Injuries

The Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating the homicide deaths of two individuals in Pembroke.

Officers were called to a residence on Mackay Street shortly before 3:00 a.m. on May 22, 2023, where police found two people with life-threatening injuries. Both individuals were transported to hospital, where one person was pronounced deceased. The second victim remains in hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Shortly afterwards, a third person was located deceased not far from the initial scene. Investigators believe the victims were targeted.
Police are asking the public to report any suspicious activity in the area, and to be mindful of their own personal safety.

The OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) Canine Unit, the Upper Ottawa Valley Crime Unit and the OPP Forensic Identification Unit are engaged in the investigation, under the direction of the Criminal Investigation Branch and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and Centre of Forensic Sciences.

Residents of the area should expect to see a large police presence.

The investigation is in its early stages and more information will be released when available.
