OPP INVESTIGATING AFTER MORE DEBRIS LOCATED ON HIGHWAY 17 

(LAURENTIAN VALLEY TWP, ON) – On February 7, 2021, at approximately 3:20 a.m., the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) began investigating after debris was found on Highway 17 near Sawmill Road in Laurentian Valley Township (LVTP). The debris was reported by a motorist and consisted of several vehicle rims that were found on the roadway. The motorist did not collide with the rims. 

Police have seized the rims and OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS) officers are assisting with the investigation. In recent weeks the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP and Renfrew OPP have responded to a number of incidents involving found debris on Highway 17.

Focused patrol initiated, crime unit assisting

(LAURENTIAN VALLEY TWP, ON) – In recent weeks the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Renfrew OPP have responded to a number of incidents involving found debris on Highway 17. The incidents, which have occurred between the Pembroke area and Renfrew, have involved rocks and vehicle rims being placed on the travelled portion of the highway.

As a result of the danger posed to public safety by these incidents the UOVOPP and Renfrew OPP have jointly initiated a focused patrol in an effort to deter these incidents and to apprehend the person(s) responsible. The UOVOPP Crime Unit has been engaged to assist along with an OPP Regional Operational Analyst (ROA) and OPP’s Forensic Identification Services (FIS).

Motorists are advised to be alert and watch for debris, especially in the early morning hours on Highway 17.

Two large water tanks found on Highway 17

(LAURENTIAN VALLEY TWP, ON) – On February 9, 2021, at approximately 9:30 p.m., members of the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to found debris on Highway 17 near B Line Road in Laurentian Valley Township. The debris consistent of a hot water tank and water softener tank that were both found on the shoulder of the highway. Both tanks were seized by police and police continue to investigate this incident along with a number of other incidents involving debris being placed on Highway 17 between the Pembroke area and Renfrew.

As a result of the danger posed to public safety by these incidents the UOVOPP and Renfrew OPP have jointly initiated a focused patrol in an effort to deter these incidents and to apprehend the person(s) responsible. OPP INVESTIGATING AFTER MORE DEBRIS LOCATED ON HIGHWAY 17

Charges laid, accused held for a bail hearing

(LAURENTIAN VALLEY TWP, ON) – Members of the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) and Renfrew Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have been investigating a number of recent incidents involving debris being placed on Highway 17 between Pembroke and Renfrew. The UOV OPP Crime Unit was engaged to assist along with an OPP Regional Operational Analyst (ROA) and OPP’s Forensic Identification Services (FIS). On the afternoon of February 25, 2021 the UOV OPP Crime Unit arrested an individual in connection with this case.

As a result of this investigation Joshua Patrick BOYCE, age 21 of Bonnechere Valley Township, has been charged with the following Criminal Code (CC) offences:

• Mischief endangering life – two counts
• Theft under $5000
• Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000

The accused will be held for a bail hearing on February 26, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke

Additional charges laid against accused

(LAURENTIAN VALLEY TWP, ON) – Members of the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) and Renfrew Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have been investigating a number of recent incidents involving debris being placed on Highway 17 between Pembroke and Renfrew. The UOV OPP Crime Unit was engaged to assist along with an OPP Regional Operational Analyst (ROA) and OPP’s Forensic Identification Services (FIS). On the afternoon of February 25, 2021 the UOV OPP Crime Unit arrested an individual in connection with this case.

In addition to the charges already before the courts, Joshua Patrick BOYCE, age 21 of Bonnechere Valley Township, has been charged with three additional counts of mischief endangering life contrary to the Criminal Code (CC).

The accused will be held for a bail hearing on February 26, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke.
