OPP INVESTIGATING SUSPICIOUS DEATH IN GREATER MADAWASKA TOWNSHIP

Update #1 – Victim Identified, Homicide Confirmed

(RENFREW, ON) – An individual located deceased in the Township of Greater Madawaska has been identified and their death deemed a homicide.

On Wednesday, May 6, 2026, just before 6:00 p.m., members from the Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call for service on Lanark Road in Greater Madawaska Township, where one person was located deceased.

A postmortem identified the deceased as 61-year-old Geraldine FULCHER of Calabogie and determined the cause of death to be homicide.

Investigators believe this to be a targeted incident, with no indication of a broader threat.

The OPP is aware of community concerns and wants to reassure residents that this matter is being taken seriously. Police continue to actively monitor the situation, and an increased presence in the area can be expected as the investigation remains ongoing.

This investigation is being conducted by the Renfrew County OPP Crime Unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service. Assistance is being provided by OPP Forensic Identification Services.
